On the 4th August 2008 and after more than 100 years in Electrical Contracting Wall Electrical was acquired by Grimwood and Dix Limited.
Wall Electrical was founded by Frank Wall in Oldham way back in 1903 as Frank Wall and Co and over the next eight decades grew to become a major Electrical Contractor carrying out numerous installations in public and civil buildings, law courts and of course the huge textile industry prevalent in Oldham at the time. This period saw the greatest industrial advance since the Industrial revolution, namely the Electrification of the Mills whereby steam power was replaced by electricity as the driving force for the hundreds of thousands of textile machines in Oldham alone. Frank Wall and Co played a major role in this transformation.
In 1960 Frank Wall and Co was acquired by the Oldham Textile Machine Manufacturer “Dronsfield” and continued as Walls of Oldham carrying outElectrical Installation Contracting as before including in 1962 employing over 100 men on daywork carrying out the electrical installation at Terminal 1 of Manchester Airport.
During 1983 Dronsfield went into receivership as a result of the decline of the textile industry and took Walls of Oldham into receivership with it.
Stuart Roebuck who had started as an apprentice with Frank Wall in 1964 and had risen through the ranks to become a director by the time of the Dronsfield collapse set up Wall Electrical (Oldham) and successfully ran Wall Electrical until it’s merger with Grimwood and Dix in 2008. Stuart is still very much involved in running Wall Electrical as a separate division of Grimwood and Dix.
Wall Electrical like Grimwood and Dix has an enviable pedigree and is certain to add considerable strength and future growth to Grimwood and Dix Limited.
